When I visit artist blogs and look what people are creating, I see lots of pictures of scenes, from quick renderings to long studies. Those scenes have inspired me.

Drawing something I can't hold in my hand isn't my usual style, but it was fun to give a larger subject a whirl.

I sat at an open-air cafe at the Cloisters Museum. The tables, under arched walkways, surround a garden. It's nice to spend time in warm weather at the cafe, even though the brownies cost $3.50 and don't taste that good.

Garden cafe scene. Number 2 pencil in Moleskine sketchbook.

  1. Lovely study. I have the same problem trying to draw something much bigger than myself. I struggle with perspective, even though I technically know how it should be done. Much easier said than done though.

  2. You must have enjoyed the time spent in the cafe area at the Cloisters. I sat in almost the same spot for a sketch last year and loved the many conversations going on around me, and the lovely garden. Nice!

  3. Heather, perspective? Augh...hurts my head!

Shirley, that museum IS a great place! I really enjoy going there. Looking forward to sketching in Central Park soon.

  4. Yep, hurts my head too! Have you left comments on my blog yesterday or today? I got an email from another person who comments on my blog saying that their comments weren't appearing. I'm not sure if it's because I've been redirecting it.

  5. Heather, I was having trouble with comments, but also other computer problems with my laptop (user errors!). I'll pop by your place for a visit.

  6. Thanks Resi, they seem to be coming through ok now but I know there are missing comments. Hopefully that's the end of it! Ah good old user errors, I'm sure that was my problem too hehe.

  7. This is a lovely sketch! There must be something about buildings, drawing them intimidates me also. Kudos to you for pushing through that and finishing a wonderful ddrawing!

  8. Thanks, ffyrebird. I'd love to go back to the same spot and try again. The arches were rather fun. :)
