As I drew this sunflower today, I got an idea for a larger piece. Sometimes I wonder what to do with these little drawings I do in sketchbooks, and today I saw this drawing as a study for something bigger.

But mostly while I drew this drooping sunflower, I thought of the mosquitoes that were biting me and wishing I'd see a park worker. I wanted to ask the worker if there was any bug spray stashed away in the park office that I could use. Normally I put a little dab of tea tree oil or peppermint oil on my arms and legs, and that keeps the bugs away. But I forgot to dab this morning and I had childhood flashbacks of being sprayed head to toe with bugspray, probably laden with DDT. I really wanted a hit of the hard stuff today.

I finally did see a park worker, but by then I was finished with my drawing and heading home.

He said, "Do you want a cat? We have a stray kitten in the park."

"No," I said, "I already have two cats."

I also have two dozen mosquito bites and an idea for an art project.

Colored pencil in Moleskine sketchbook.

  1. Ouch! Thankfully we don't have mosquitos! As for the stray kitten, I'm afraid I'd have buckled and taken it home, even with my 2 cats. I'm a succour for strays. I was the same as a child. I used to bring in strays all the time, even though we had plenty of pets: field mice, dogs, cats, caterpillars! Lol.

  4. Lots! I love animals. If I could I'd take in all the strays. Don't think hubby would be as keen!

  5. That's a beautiful picture.

Bug spray works but it smells soooo bad that I never use it. I have a very sensitive snese of smell, so it makes me nauseous when other people spray it around me.

  6. Diannea, oh the smell of bug spray is terrible, I agree! Try peppermint oil - it works and smells divine. Just a tiny dab will do ya.
