There was a tiny inchworm crawling around the leaves as I drew the version below. He's on the leaf second from the top, looking around to make his next move.
I figured out this week that I've been saying the name of this plant, nasturtium, incorrectly my whole life. As I drew this plant, just about everyone who walked by said, "Oh, those are the flowers you can eat. I've had them on salads." And someone else would say, "Yes, I've had them too." They would walk away and the next set of people would have the same conversation. They all pronounced the name in a strange way, which is how I figured out I've been saying it wrong.
I've had these flowers on salads.

Beautiful drawings as always! I enjoyed your video too! Looks like a wonderful spot for drawing.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent sketch, both of the flowers and the leaves. The fading blossoms and the drying leaves add a lot of interest, and the purple frame is just right! I love the inch worm too!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of either versions. The details on the leaves are excellent! It's really nice to be able to see so many views and variation from a single subject =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful page to see ..the video was very well done and the photos and words so interesting---I enjoyed the visit so much and especially love the sketch of what you saw while sitting in that lovely place---the Nasturtiums remind me of my mother and I recall them being so bright and as you say all kids of twists and turns--peppery tasting I believe---how I love to use them for food presentation...
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautiful delicate sketches, the inch worm makes the second one special.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawings! I love how the flower looks just as fragile as they feel in reality! And the worm is great too! (I always appreciate tiny details like this in drawings!)
ReplyDeleteNasturtium is an awesome plant. The flowers make any salad a colorful delicacy. You can also eat the leaves, in case you didn't know!
Thank you for stopping by, everyone! I'm looking forward to a few more days of public garden visits next week. Whoohoo...that's my idea of a great time. :)
ReplyDeleteYour Nasturtium plant reminds me of my grandmother. I love the shades of peachy orange with the lovely greens in the leaves.
ReplyDeleteYour video was great, especially for a first time posting. Your commentary was slow and deliberate and no camera bouncing around making the viewer seasick...
I'm curious: How do you pronounce Nasturtium?
I've always heard it and say it: Nas-TUR-shum.
Your flower drawings are really lovely - so delicate! I enjoyed your video very much, never having been to New York it was fun to see a bit of it from your perspective. How wonderful that it's become such a lovely spot! nancy
ReplyDeleteTerrific drawings and I really liked your video. It was interesting to see where you sketch!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing! I didn't know that kind of plant...
ReplyDeleteLove color and composition :)
These are lovely drawings, and I thoroughly enjoyed the video. It's such a nice way to personalise your blog. I've got to say, you have a very pretty way of talking. Looking forward to seeing more of your posts!
