Yesterday I took my daughter to an art workshop at a museum. The topic was William Blake and his printmaking and poetry. The kids carved the initial first letter of a poem and an image to go along with whatever poem they selected. They made prints of their carvings and then hand copied the poem on the page.

As the kids worked, I kept my eye on the supplies. When I saw there was plenty left over, I asked the instructors if the parents could make some artwork too. A few adults joined me at the supply table, and we gathered what we needed quickly as it was close to the museum's closing time.

The security guards eventually kicked us out, and my work was rushed...but it was fun to make!

I'm pretty sure the kids in the workshop had fun too.

The Song of the Geranium Fairy was written by Cicely Mary Barker.

While we made art, my son played goalie for the first time in soccer. Two goals got past him, but watch out next time! Season stats so far: 1 win, 2 losses, 2 ties.

  1. Welcome back Resi! You've been missed! Funny that you mention William Blake. I saw something last week online about William Blake the printmaker. I remember wondering if it was William Blake the poet, then kind of dismissed it as a coincidence. So thank you for confirming it. I love your print. Is this a monoprint?

  2. I can relate. I've never been able to keep my hands out of a kid's art project. Never. This is so beautifully done. Hard to believe you were limited in time.

  3. I'd say "I'm going to play too" :) Usually I'd love to draw with the kids too, and it's so much more fun really.
    Oh yeah, Welcome BACK! ^^

  4. I think the museum missed an opportunity. Too many parents don't do art of any kind having learned too long ago they couldn't do well enough. They should have had supplies for parents to sit by their kids and play too. If you get to give feedback, I would suggest this. Parents who read pass on reading. Parents who do art pass on ....

Looks like you had fun and you made a great page.

  6. I feel that I learn things from watching my daughter as she grapples with an art assignment in such art classes. She always seems to make decisions that I would never have considered - that's freedom.
